What will I study?

You will look at the ways in which a variety of films are produced. Films will include both Hollywood and Global cinema.  There will a comparison of Hollywood films from the 1950s and the 1980s.  A British film, a global English-language film and a global non-English language film will also be studied.
All students will complete modules in Screenwriting, poster design and film sequence planning

How will I be assessed?

External assessment; Written examination paper — 70% of the final mark
Controlled assessment — 30% of the final mark. The controlled assessment consists of writing a 1000 word screenplay in a specified genre.

Where does studying this course take me?

A successful grade at GCSE will allow progression to A level or BTEC courses post 16.

What do I really need to cope successfully with this course?

To succeed at GCSE Film Studies students must have a passion for a variety of films. Analytical skills and the ability to write a developed a coherent argument are also essential for this subject. Students will need to spend additional time mastering elements of the creative process, including ideas generation and writing using screenplay formats
