Admissions to Stockport local education authority schools are based on priority areas. Werneth School does not decide which students will be given a place at the school. If you wish to discuss individual circumstances you may contact the school, but we are unable to process individual applications. Our admission limit is 250 students per year.
Most of our students come from Bredbury, Woodley, Romiley and Brinnington. Some come from different parts of Stockport, Tameside and further afield.
Enquiries about admissions should be made to the: -
Education Office at Stockport Town Hall on 0161 480 4949
Each year the school arranges an Open Evening for prospective students and their parents/carers.
Once we know which students are due to attend there is a series of events and meetings from May onwards to ease the transfer from primary school. These include: primary sports sessions, a New Intake evening for parents/carers and a taster day at the school when students will sample a range of lessons with the tutor group to which they will belong in September. In addition key staff visit the main primary schools to discuss transfer information with appropriate teachers.
Admission of students with disabilities
Werneth School has an inclusive admissions policy. If invited, the SENCo and/or the Pastoral Manager, will attend the Transfer Review meeting held during Year 5 and 6. At these meetings we will outline the support that would be available.
Parents/carers and students are both welcomed and encouraged to visit the school prior to this review meeting.
A copy of the student’s Special Educational Needs policy is available on the school website. Click here The Governing Body reviews this annually.
All staff are fully briefed on the most appropriate strategies to use with individual students and in-service training is provided.
